5TMC Epic Phone System
By D. N. David
I have 8 TMC Phones in my home. 4 ET 4300 and the earlier model ET 4000. These phones are mostly the same except for cosmetics. The EV 4500 adds an auto attendant and voice mail but is otherwise the same phone. You might think it's crazy to have 8 of these in a home enviornment...but the flexibilty and usefulness of these phones is wonderful. I originally bought 2, then 2 more than 4 more. I have a home office, a mother-in-law, kids...and these phones have an outstanding intercome feature, music on hold, custom ringers (so I don't answer when it's for grandma), a built in directory available to all units...you can customize which phones ring on what lines, page the whole house...the features are easy and endless and I use most of them. The intercom feature alone, because its an auto answer intercome (meaning you can set it so you don't have to pick up the handset to answer) that alone makes it all worth it. Great for a small business; but the best feature is talking on the intercome while in the kitchen and cooking! The first 2 units I've had for 5+ years and they've all been reliable. Don't hesitate. Nice company too when you have a question.

3Screechy Sounding Phone Buttons
By TechRptr
Well, I got six of these phones at the same time about a week ago and I was a little surprised/disappointed by the noise generated by pushing the speakerphone and line buttons: Essentially a significant unpleasant screech/static-like sound was emitted. Having had panasonic, siemens and avaya system phones previously, this was something I didn't think was normal. I called the manufacturer and was told that it was not a defect, but "the nature of the beast." While I haven't had sufficient time to report whether the phones are otherwise satisfactory, most reasonable people I think would expect a new quality business phone to *not* have the somewhat irritating contact noise. Over time, heavy usage, dust, etc., many phones eventually can develop the contact noise (heard on the speaker when pressing line and speakerphone buttons etc). If your backdrop is a particularly quiet one (patient reception-room area), this is more than just a passing annoyance. I suggest anyone wanting to buy this phone should check it out in-person at their local retailer first.

2Generally works well, but has some serious flaws
By wrecks
Bought this phone in January 2011. Generally works well. Sound quality is good. Speaker phone is very good. You can use the handset, speaker, or headset.However...1. When you pick up the handset to make a call, the phone selects a line that is not in use. Good. But when there is an incoming call and you pick up the handset, it does the same thing -- so you get a dial tone! It should select the line that is ringing! This is a BIG pain.2. The memory for frequently called numbers is very limited.3. When you play a message that was received by the answering system, the caller id information does not appear. Most phones show you the number while the message plays, and allow you to just pick up the handset to return the call. Not this phone.4. When the power goes out, the phone forgets the time and date. (This is despite having a backup battery.) When the next call comes in, it picks up the time and date from the caller id. HOWEVER, it does not understand the YEAR, and defaults to 2006. Thereafter, when it plays messages, it says the day of the week that the message was received -- but that day is wrong -- it's from 2006!I'm going back to Panasonic.
