Tried it out at NAMM 2011: truly awesome

For the money, you will not find a better keyboard that has killer organs, pianos, clavinets and electric pianos (Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer styles). The Nord Stage 2 has several key features including splits and layers that make it well worth an upgrade. If you're looking for strictly organs, be sure to check out the Fatar Numa. Jazz great Joey De Francesco is now endorsing the Numa. Both Yamaha and Roland have decent stage pianos as well. But I have to give 5 stars to the Nord for versatility, sound, feel and function.

Nord Keyboards All The Way!

I own a Nord Stage 88-key (Rev C model). It's been discontinued, but considering I only have the greatest things to say about my stage, I'm sure the stage 2 is even better. I basically just want to talk about how awesome Nord keyboards are, aside from the red hot panels.First of all, if you're looking for a professional keyboard with an amazing sound, the Nord is outstanding. I grew up playing classical piano, and if I ever played a keyboard, for some reason, they were all Yamahas. Don't get me wrong - I like Yamaha pianos fine and I like their keyboards fine, but that's it - fine. I never had to go out of my way to get a keyboard until my band started picking up, and by then, I was borrowing a ridiculously heavy Korg Triton that I thought was great but overrated- btw, some of the sounds on there were too cheesy! Also I was scared I was going to scratch it, which I did, had to replace a part, and then I decided it was time to get a keyboard. I was a poor college student at the time so my "keyboard" ended up being an M-Audio 88-key "semi-weighted" midi-controller that my band mate helped me hook up to Reason. The more tours and performances we played, the more pain in my fingers I started experiencing. I thought I was developing arthritis! It turned out that I was just so used to playing weighted keys on a piano that the weightless keys on the midi-controller were becoming a problem for me and my playing. There was no "give" in the keys so my joints were suffering and becoming stiff. A couple years later, I was able to start looking at better quality keyboards and didn't realize I'd become somewhat of a snob. I had made my decision to either go with a Kurzweil or a Nord. I went to GC and played around with the Nord and completely fell in love! I of course had to wait for a good deal before I could make my purchase. I also found a steal for a Kurzweil PC2R synth rack so I figured I could hook it up and hear what all the rave was about. Sadly, I even found Kurzweil to sound a bit too cheesy for my taste. Maybe they're better now, but 2 years ago, eck! I ended up selling that rack. The Nord on the other hand, wow, the piano, the organ, the synths (okay some still sound cheesy, but need less tweaking IMO). I love the Wurlitzer, btw! Used it in the studio and performances as is, and oh that sweet sound. And I love just love the keys! Just a fabulous keyboard all around. The Stage EX's have been discontinued as well, but the reason I didn't go with that upgrade at the time was because other than the expanded memory, apparently the newer panel and labels were harder to see in the dark and I needed to be able to see on stage (my night vision sucks). I don't know what the most updated panels look like, but regardless, Nords rule. I hope my keyboard lasts forever!
