Superb value

I purchased an CX11NF for about $750... I am very pleased with the speed and crispness of the printer and copier functions. CNET claims this printer has less than good black text quality. I don't agree... the text is VERY sharp. 5 years ago a printer of this quality would have cost $8000 from Xerox. If you could even have gotten it.Two nits:1) fax functionality has some bugs in that it rarely picks up the shared line when you are talking on the phone. The fax firmware mistakes the voice for a fax machine calling and interrupts your phone call with all the fax signalling tones. Annoying. I downloaded a fix from Epson support which was great, and it's only happened once since then (3 months ago).2) Seems to go thru toner fast... my first black cartridge is only 33% full at less than 2 reams of paper. Will try the high yield cartridge from Amazon next ... see how long that lasts.

UPS delivered next day and sent two men to unload!! Very nice packaging but be sure you have a firm place to sit it down because a stand is optional and only directly from Epson so far. Simple CD installation for all components. We've used the item for 2 days and have nothing but praise so far. For an inkjet background, Epson has done wonders with this new color laser technology. Easy ADF faxing, scans are crystal clear, printing is crisp and VERY fast (first sheet in about 40 seconds from sleep mode!!), copies are near photo perfect. I could go on, but do your own research and then make yourself a happy owner!

** Update August 25, 2007 -- just wanted to say it's been four months and I still LOVE LOVE LOVE my printer. I literally hug it every day. **OK, so I have only owned this for two days, but so far my experiences have been as follows:1. Ordered overnight from The Epson Store. Total with overnight shipping was $619.95, a total deal.2. Arrived as promised, packed very securely. Packaging was convenient to open with a removable bottom, so the heavy printer could rest on the floor while I pulled the large box up off of it.3. Pretty easy to follow directions for setup. The only hiccup was that some of the peach plastic safety covers that are supposed to be removed upon opening are tricky to get off. Also, it wasn't explained very clearly that the peach plastic safety covers that are attached to the toner mechanism become easier to remove as you install each toner cartridge, so don't try to remove them until you install each cartridge because the mechanism spins around to expose the removal tab for each one.4. Pretty easy to connect to a Mac computer. Was able to print and copy and fax right away. The Scan software that came on CD did not work though, but getting online and downloading the latest scan driver fixed the problem. Just make sure you have the latest scan driver since the CD could be a few months old and Apple is always coming out with security updates, etc. that can break a driver.5. Everything is a breeze. This machine is totally sweet. It all works the way you think it would, no weirdness or hiccups. Very nice software that comes with the printer to monitor the scanner, check toner level, etc.6. It prints on heavy cardstock and envelopes just fine. There is a little bit of curl, but if you flatten the paper while still warm the curl does not stay. There is no "bypass tray" and that is too bad, but the multipurpose tray adjusts to hold envelopes just fine. The only problem is you have to take out all of the regular paper to adjust the tray for envelopes. It would be nice to have a bypass.7. The automatic document feeder is awesome. I didn't really need a fax, but the CX11N doesn't come with an ADF, so I just said whatver, and I'm really glad I sprang for the extra features. I don't know how I lived without the ADF before.8. The scanner/copier glass is only big enough for a letter size sheet of paper, so I'm not sure how you copy a legal size page, maybe with the ADF. I'll have to check that out. Page 40 of the manual does say that you can copy legal size pages though.After 5 years of jerry-rigging an HP multi-function, with print-servers, workarounds, and patches, this is a breath of fresh air. Never again will I ever buy an HP printer.
