5amazing product; the best thermals i've ever owned.
By THEIZZARDKING
i found these bad boys on steepandcheap for $50 and even then i was skeptical about spending $50 fr a pair of thermals, well let me just say this , after owning them for about 3~4 years wearing them for weeks at a time in conditions ranging from mildly chilly nights around a camp fire to summiting the peaks for 14k ft mountains, the did great when working out and when just hanging out, and not going to lie and i know it sounds disgusting but it's the nature of things when doing extended backpacking trips....but i wore these things for 3 weeks straight covering between 10~20 miles a day on the northern part of the PCT and all of my other gear smelled like you wouldn't believe but these things stayed pretty clean all things considered and was about the only thing i wasn't cringing to put back on in the AM.so yeah, they are expensive but for how long they lasted me and how much i used them and how good they worked i think it's worth it, i bought a 2nd pair at full price because this product won me over so much.that said, they are pretty thin, like a proper tight, however i did notice that they kept me just as warm as the thicker ones i had in my sets but also allowed me to get my heart rate up without sweating, they do what they are supposed to brilliantly. so the thin comment is for those who are looking for a non-active thermal to sit at the bus stop in or go snow boarding in you may want something a bit thicker

5Balazs i-Box Speed Bag Platoform - Knockout Red
By Tico
I have an Everlast heavy bag/speed bag stand and the platform for the speed bag cracked after seven months of use. I did alot of reading on speed bag platforms and decided to try out the Balazs i-Box. The instructions were outstanding and I installed it on the wall of my garage - mounted on two 2x4 pieces of wood. There is no comparision between this Balazs product and the heavy bag/speed bag stand I was previously using. The Balazs i-Box is extremely sturdy and super fast compared to my previous stand. I had to re-learn the speed bag due to the increased speed. The old saying still holds true - you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

3ok but not great
By Brian
This watch has one major problem. The number 13 sounds exactly as the number 30. The number 14 sounds exactly like the number 40. The number 15 sounds exactly like the number 50; and well you get the idea. You can't tell if it is 5:13 or 5:30. It's rather annoying. It would also be nice if they had included a stop watch function. I just can't seem to ever find the ideal talking watch. I would be willing to pay more for a high quality talking watch but, it doesn't seem to be out there.

5Great Watch for the Blind
By John A. Sisk
My wife bought this watch since I am 100% blind. I love it and has no problems understanding the voice. Alas remembering which buttons do which feature is sometimes a problem. The only down side it the band can not be replaced by a normal band.

4I love this watch!
By Marsha L. Woerner
I would give it five stars except three things:1) I agree with the gentleman who said that the difference between 15 and 50, 13 and 30, etc. is nonexistent.2) The second is that I found it very difficult to press the button for the dates.3) The third is that it totally died after a bit over a year and a half. I thought it was just a battery thing, but a new battery to not help. But I love this watch! I bought a replacement that I HATEDtsame brand), so I have since ordered a replacement of this model . It is great, particularly for those like me who are legally blind.

5A great hat, and arguably the best Tilley hat
By Roquentin
This is my fourth Tilley hat after the LTM3 AIRFLO Nylamtium, the LTM5 AIRFLO Nylamtium, and the TH4 Hemp. I like them all, but this one, the TH5 Hemp, may be the one hat to rule them all. As with all Tilleys, workmanship is first rate, but there's something about hemp that satisfies in a way that the Nylamtium cannot. It's the Damascus steel of wearable fabrics. Heavier, yes, but with more personality and a more natural, less manufactured appearance. Breathability is only slightly reduced compared to the Nylamtium models, and of course it's slightly heavier, but I find it very comfortable even on the hottest days (it's 103º F in Austin as I write this). What you get in the TH5 is a hat that's about as rugged as you can imagine for a natural fabric and it wears its scars well. It's convenient to insert the temples of sunglasses through the grommets in the side of the crown, securing the earpieces with the built-in velcro loop on the inside. And there's a handy little velcro-sealed pocket underneath the crown to store your stash or other other valuables. This is really the perfect hat for outdoor music festivals, but I also use it for camping and backpacking. The TH5 has a medium brim, making it suitable for everyday use both in country and about town, with a variety of clothing styles, whereas the TH4 has Tilley's widest brim in this category, making it look a bit out of place anywhere but during serious outdoor activities. The TH4's brim also flops around somewhat because of its size, whereas the narrower TH5 brim holds its shape well without being stiff. My only complaint, and this is with respect to the mocha-colored model that I own: the headband on the inside is a light tan color, which peeks out just a bit when viewed from the underside while on the head. I'd rather it matched the color of the rest of the hat, but perhaps the reasoning is that salty sweat might otherwise leach out color onto your forehead.

5From the Sahara to Central Park, my Tilley can handle it.
By Claude Hammond
A great hat is like a great wine. When it ages, it gets better. Tilley hats start out looking good, but when they get a little wear on them, they look really, REALLY good(and you look good, too).My job takes me around the world, so any hat I wear needs to be up to certain challenges. First, my hat has to look good. But there are a lot of good-looking hats around. Second, my hat must withstand frequent air travel -- this is a tougher requirement for a hat. Because any hat I wear has to be pushed (sometimes jammed) into the overhead luggage compartments when I on a plane, the hat must be crushable, and then resume its nice shape and appearance when I arrive at my destination. My Tilley TH5 endures jet travel, the Kentucky humidity, the desert heat of places like Dubai, Phoenix, and West Texas, and also withstand the winds and rain of places like Baltimore and New York. No matter where I go, my Tilley hat withstands it all.By the way, a dermatologist friend of mine recommends Tilley hats and outdoor clothing for the great UV protection they offer. I like them for more obvious reasons: Tilley products look and feel good. One bit of advice for the first-time Tilley hat purchaser: Read the purchasing directions. One must be able to fit two fingers between one's head and the inside band of the Tilley for a proper fit. Tilley's philosophy for wearing a hat is that gravity should hold the hat on your head, instead of a snug fit. This dramatically increases the comfort factor for your head. These hats are addictive. I have two or three other Tilley models that I am planning to purchase, because they look great! (I have noticed that other Tilley owners have multiple Tilleys on their hat racks.)

5Good color. Fits perfect. Holds up to heavy yard work.
By Curt
I bought the Brown TH5 Hemp Hat. It shipped and arrived quickly. The hat fits exactly as Tilley said it would (follow their advice). The hat stays cooler than most similar hats, the quality is great (fabric and stitching) and if the reviews are right then it will last a very very long time. Not only do I wear this out and about but I do all of my yard work wearing this hat and it doesn't smell like gas, grass or sweat afterwards unlike the rest of my hats.Well worth the steep price.

5Great hat for those not wanting to look like beach bums
By Peter Buchy
As a bone marrow transplant recipient, I face the prospect of developing chronic graft vs. host disease whenever I'm in the sun. I can't live like a mole underground, but I need good sun protection. What I love about this hat, and the whole Tilley line, is that it's not a beach hat, like so many we see out there. This is a hat that you feel you can go anywhere in. Being made out of hemp, it's like, breathable, washable, and offers full protection.Plus, Tilley has great straight-shooter policies, if you lose your hat. Fantastic company.

5SIMPLY THE BEST HATS I HAVE EVER OWNED.
By D. Blankenship
This review is really on two models of the Tilley Hemp Hat. The TH4 and the TH5. The hats I am reviewing are alike with the exception of the brim size. It should also be noted that the two hats I am reviewing are Moca in color and not white as shown in this product page. I am not sure what has happened, but the pictures here do not agree with those found in the current Tilley catalog.I have to admit that I own six Tilley hats. Over the years I have found that they are the most serviceable hats available on the market today, and their look suites my personal and particular taste in hats perfectly. More about the quality of these hats later....First, the difference in the TH4 and the TH5 is the size of the hat brim. The TH5 has a smaller and stiffer brim than the TH4. The TH4 has a brim that is quite large and quite floppy. It covers a lot of space and is a great hat for sun protection. I use the TH4 for canoeing and when I am on or near the water or when I know that I will be out in rainy weather. I personally am not fond of the wider brim, but I do find it useful. The hat I wear the most is the TH5. The brim is smaller and keeps its shape well. I can wear this hat for just about any activity, and in fact it looks quite good even in civilized environments such as cities, restraints, ballgames, etc. It, along with other Tilley hat models, are my hats of choice for most activities.I have normally never been a hat person but due to the fact that I spend a great amount of time outside, my physician and wife insist that I wear one and to get them off my back, I do so. Now it I truly have to keep my head covered I want something decent, serviceable, good looking and something that will last as long as I do; even longer in all probability. These needs of mine are more than covered by the hats manufactured and sold by this company. The workmanship that has gone into these hats is almost perfect. I have yet to find a flaw in the material, stitching or design. Folks, this is a very, very well made product. Now, the first thing that goes through a new buyer's mind is the cost of these things. Upon fort glance, they seem quite expensive and I suppose if you look at it a certain way, they are. But you have to stop and think about it. What other hat can I buy that is guaranteed for life? And not just my life...actually this hat will likely be around long after I am gone. I know for a fact that if the hat every wears out, it will be replaced...no questions asked. I have had two hats replaced this way over the years. Both times it was my fault...I abused the hats, or at least on one of them, my dog did the other one in, and these people replaced both of them. They also have a guarantee that if your hat is lost or stolen, they will replace it at half price. A friend of mind found that this guarantee is the absolute truth! If proper instructions are followed; simply instructions, I might add, the sizing is perfect. It should also be noted that this is a Canadian company. These hats are not out-sourced, but rather are manufactured in Canada by Canadians. I like that. I sort of like Canadians and it pleases me that the Tilley Company is sticking with its people. Perhaps some of our American manufactures should take note of this fact!As I travel around the country, it never ceases to amaze me how many people come out of the crowd and identify themselves as Tilley Hat owners, and I seldom go anywhere without receiving a compliment directed at any of these hats I wear. This is kind of neat.Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks

5Turn timber into usable lumber
By Roland Pouliot
After getting some property logged, it seemed to be a waste to cut up the treetops that were left just for firewood. Now, instead of firewood, I have some boards that I can use for other projects. The logging company left everything over 12 inches in diameter, which might be a bit inefficient for cutting into boards, but a nice straight log is better as a board than firewood.Using the Granberg ripping chain, I was able to cut quickly and smoothly. The results were much better than I expected. I used a Stihl MS 361 saw with a 20" bar, which might be a bit overkill. By using gentle pressure, I was able to get some smooth finishes on the boards, although running through a planer will probably be necessary for most projects. The Granberg slabbing rails are next on my "to get" list. I made a temporary set out of some scrap lumber, but it did not work all that well. I would not recommend using this without also getting the ripping chain.

4Get the ripping blade!
By J. Kuchera
I purchased this product to mill a pecan tree that a friend was having cut down. The mill went together easily and mounted to the chainsaw firmly. I watched a short video on their website to get a feel for the procedure. The section of log I had was about 12" to 18" in diameter and about 9 feet long. I used a husqvarna rancher 20" chainsaw with a standard crosscut blade. Each pass I made took 10 minutes + to complete and it was some work. I knew this could be better so I purchased a ripping style chain, but when I went to remount the mill, a weld broke. This is what makes/brakes a company in my opinion. I called the Granberg office and they rushed me a new part. I was back in business in no time and I could tell that the new part had been redesigned with larger weld areas. Good work guys. I'm still giving 4 stars since it did break, but I'd put 5 stars for the customer service. The next project went much smoother, cutting 20" diameter sycamore logs. The ripping blade is the way to go. I am faster - not lightning faster - still take my time to make a nice cut, but it is way easier to push through the log. By leveling a wide board atop the log and making your first cut (they also sell rails for this) you get amazingly straight lumber. Stacked well, it will all be usable in a year or so. It is a great experience to make lumber. My pecan log yielded about $600 in lumber, so it's definitely worth it.

4Granberg small log mill
By Doug McCallister
I purchased the Granberg small log mill G777 because I have a smaller saw and I will probably not be cutting logs greater than a 20" total diameter. The mill came unassembled which should hav been a problem, but the instructions seem to be for an earlier model of this saw. Some logic and guess work is involved. Once the mill is together it is quite easy to attach to the saw bar, but a wider bar would make it easier as getting too close to the chain channel will bind the chain. The instructions for laying out the first cut were easy enough to follow, but could have been a bit more detailed. The performance of the mill depends to a large extent on the quality of your saw and a well sharpened chain. I thought that I had a sharp chain, but after struggling with the first two cuts I purchased another chain and discovered just how dull that first chain was. With a sharp chain the cuts are not too physically demanding. The only other concern that I have is that the tip of the bar is not supported so that it does not stay parallel with the mill fence if much up or down force is exerted on the saw grip. I'm sure that this will improve with practice, but until then you can be looking at as much as 1/4" difference in board thickness from one edge to the other for wider boards, and that will also vary along the length of the board.

5If you have a fireplace...BUY IT!
By P. Roth
I didn't need a big expensive gas driven model for the small amount of wood that I use. I split hickory, and I need all 10 tons to split hickory, so any log splitter that is less then 10 tons is a useless toy. This little jewel is a delight to use. I no longer have to split wood with a sledgehammer and a wedge. Why everyone who has a fireplace does not buy one, I do not understand.

1Not Worth the Money
By C. Beall
Swisher, Big Roc, and Northern Industrial all sell this same log splitter, which is made by some no-name company. Ours broke before one year or one cord was finished. The end of the bottle jack piston is welded to a yoke that is connected to two springs that pull the ram back into the jack, when you open the needle valve to let off the hydraulic pressure. Those three undersized welds broke, so now we push the ram in with our hands. The needle valve has also worn out, to the point where we have to use vise grips to tighten it enough to get (maybe) 5 of the 10 tons of pressure it is supposed to provide (so forget splitting any big or knotted logs). The seller says ship it back at our expense & they will refund the money (which is nice, but not the $51 shipping). Postage for us will run about $65, not including finding a box strong enough to pack this 100 pound lump of metal in and the hassle of lugging it to a UPS office. Between the two shipping charges, we got about 1/2 a cord of wood for $115 !!

3imperfect, but not bad
By djangokeli
The good part: For a reasonable price, this unit will help you break down large logs for your fireplace or woodstove. It is essentially a hydraulic jack which pushes the wood into a metal wedge, by means of a couple levers which operate like a Nordic track machine. You get a bit of exercise, and the wood gets dealt with. It has two speeds: the left lever moves the jack faster, but becomes hard to push when you get a tough log. The right lever moves the jack slower, allowing you to apply more force with less effort. I've had this item for a couple months, and it has been very useful, but not perfect. The bad part: This is NOT a precision instrument; there is a lot of free play in the levers, and the whole thing can use to be of a higher quality. The instructions hint at a screw for bleeding the hydraulic fluid, but mine has no such screw. A substantial part of each stroke produces no hydraulic effect, which I guess you could look at as a way of getting more exercise...:^)With some logs, it's just not up to the task, and I've had to give up for fear of the thing busting a gut...a couple drops of hydraulic fluid leaked out once or twice. In a perfect world, the wedge would have a sharper edge, the jack would have less free play, and the whole thing would have been better. I'd have gladly paid an extra $50-75 for such an item, if only it existed. Instead, the next step up is a power tool at a substantially higher price...In any event, this thing works pretty well for me, even if it ain't perfect.
