5The best option for analog flanger pedals!
By Reviewer82
If you want to buy only one analog flanger pedal for the rest of your music career and not have to worry or second guess if you really bought the 'right' one, than the MAXON FL-9 is it! Yes, it is twice as much as the other flangers on the market, but the sound is absolutely unreal. I seldom use my analog chorus now that I own this pedal because it covers that same area sonically as well. If you love the sound of the late 70's and early 80's flange tones on all the classic records (The Cars, The Cure, Heart, etc.), this is the one to get. The Ibanez and MXR models don't even come close to this one, the are both noisy and make all sorts of whistling sounds when the levels are cranked up. The MAXON FL-9 is absolutely quiet when it's engaged, even when all of the levels are all the way up: no swooshy clock noise like the old BOSS analog flanger pedals from the 70's and 80's, no goofy whistling sounds like the current Ibanez and MXR models, just classic flange, plus the peace of mind knowing that you will never have to replace it as long as you take care of it. MAXON currently also makes a "Vintage Jet Riser" flanger pedal('VJR-9'), which is basically the same pedal with the addition of their own custom analog delay chip, and a knob in the middle that adds additional white noise. I would recommend the FL-9 over the Maxon "Vintage Jet Riser" though, especially for straight ahead unadulterated classic 1981 flange!!

5Great mask
By Redecker
This mask offers many great functions and capabilities.1. The flexibility of the mask make it comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.2. The Thermal lens actually does what it's supposed to. You can wear it for hours, and it won't fog up like more common masks. Very big selling point for anyone who's ever played with an inferior mask.3. Relatively cheap price make it very affordable with a very high quality to boot. The quality to price ratio is very good.JT generally makes good quality products at very affordable prices.Overall this is a great mask from beginners to intermediate players. Offers great protection and vision from beginning to the end. Highly recommended.

5The best piece of equipment I ever owned.
By idattu
I just noticed a lack of reviews on this saw and wanted to do my part to rectify the situation. Some secrets are better not kept. I owned one of these saws for nigh on 10 years and I NEVER had even one issue with it. I bought it with the triangle stand, which gave a very good support even without bolting it down. One of the ways I would demonstrate the smoothness of the saw is that I would set a nickel on edge and turn the saw on and up to full speed. The nickel never fell over or vibrated off towards the edge. Before this saw I had owned a Dremel brand and the saw itself would almost vibrate off the table! Exact cutting requires full concentration and a rattling machine fully destroys that.I was able to cut 2" Madagascar Rosewood (a very dense wood) with this saw. For fine work the saw was more precise than my hand/eye coordination. The unique setup for blade changing was fast and easy. The saw has a bellows with a tube that blows away the sawdust as you work, keeping the cutting line clear and visible. The thing is expensive so if you don't plan to give it heavy use, maybe one of the other saws might be enough for you. I've heard some good things about some of the other high-end saws. But... if you need a precise tool that performs trouble free for years of heavy use, then I would have to say that I can not imagine a better choice. This thing whispers and hums, but never chatters.I had to sell mine years ago, and now I am back in the market. Hegner won my loyalty and I'm not even considering another brand.

5It's not an ego thing!
By Gary Smyth
I own one of the yellow scroll saws priced in the mid $500 range. I saw my Hegner Multimax 18 variable speed in the back of a garage almost brown with dust and not the bright orange I knew. The plate said it was made in 1992. I asked if it was for sale. It was. It came with a stand and a foot pedal but not the newer quick release (and different upper arm). Anyway I asked the price and plugged it in. It rattled and made noises that shouldn't have been there. I adjusted the tension and things got better. Rather than fool with it further and risk him not selling, I decided to take the chance because the cost for this one was barely over ½ the cost of my yellow version (on sale). Got it home. Oiled a few screws, leveled the table (it tilts both left and right), adjusted the tension, reset the spring, made the connections, and it works as if new -- and at all speeds. Smooth, compact, no bounce, no lifting of the work, sawdust is blown away. The table is the older tapered style but after getting the manual, for free off of the internet, I found that it can be upgraded to the newer rectangular or a different table can be fashioned to fit on top of the original if ever I need to change it. I called the US Distributor. All the parts I might require are available, including a wrench that the previous owner forgot to include. (parts are not inexpensive, but given the reputation of Hegner quality, not out of line with some Craftsman parts I had to have (if they even had them). And, in my instance less expensive than Fein or Festool high end tools parts. Other than new cost the only con I have is that everything is metric. Luckily I have metric Allen wrenches (3,4,5,9mm), so for me, not a concern. In reviews I often feel that if the buyer paid a premium for a tool, they are very reluctant to write that they made an error, paid way too much for theapplication(s) they want it for, and that a less expensive tool would have done them just as well. Well, in this case, I paid a lot fewer dollars than the very large majority of scroll saws out there and not only did I get a great buy, but the saw is everything the reviews say it is. It works great, parts are available, customer service is terrific. The saw is very expensive, but if you need to use a good saw and you can get it, get it.

4Good telephoto lens if you're on a tight budget
By E. Song
I disagree with Jeff Kershaw's review for the older version of this lens (Sigma 70-300mm APO Super), in that it's very unfair to compare this lens to a L series lens, as those lens start at over $500 due to it's very specific high-grade optics manufacturing process. To compare this lens to a lens that starts at over 4X the price is like comparing a Honda Civic to a Porsche. Like the civic, this Sigma lens is well rounded, good for beginner and consumer SLR photographers, and maybe some "pro-sumer" on a tight budget, or even students. For the price, this lens is a bargain, as I've been doing a lot of research before buying this lens (price range in the $130-225 for telephoto). What I liked most about this is the APO lenses, which prevent reflection inside the lens which creates "ghosting" (inverted light ghostly shadow that appers on your image) which is usually apparent in nightshots. During the day APO lenses decrease those "purple fuzzies" (chromatic aberration) you see against high contrast (like a bird's wing against the sky). Granted this lens is no Porsche like the Canon L series, but for the price range, may hit the spot for some folks. I mainly use this camera for macro photography and taking photos of the Empire state building from my roof, which is 24 blocks away. This lens is definitely better quality than the Canon 75-300 USM III f/4-5.6 which is usually considered the benchmark for this price range telephoto. Also note that there are different versions of these lenses (despite close naming), so be careful about what you buy. The is a APO DG version with Macro specifically made for digital SLRs which is what is listed here (the "official" name of this lens is: 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG Macro), and a non APO version of this lens which is a bit cheaper (but not worth it at all). Also there's ones listed as APO II which is the "older" version, which I don't know the quality of, but know that it is older than the model listed here.Summary: If you're on a tight budget this is as good as it gets in this price bracket. The next tier where there's significant gains in lens imaging doesn't even start until you start spending in $600-1800 range.

5The best lens in this price range...hands down.
By Sinister Minister
First of all I must tell you that I was dragged kicking and screaming into the world of digital SLR photography. Not because I had a love of film on the contrary I hate film photography, it was more like I hated the thought of lugging around lenses and all the other stuff. I managed to build my business and reputation using fixed lens "Pro-sumer" cameras. Long story short what made me move to SLRs was performance, speed, quality and lenses like this one.If you have ever read any of my other reviews you already know I am a terrible gear head and often tend to trick out my cameras to the hilt! I was buying lenses for a rebel XT when I bought this lens on a whim. To start 70-300mm is nothing earth shaking every lens maker in the business has at least one model in this range, but the real kicker with the Sigma is the macro feature, that in a word is simply amazing. The macro feature can be switched in at 200-300mm and is tack sharp for everything from flowers, to coins to whatever!! And considering the focal range this is a relatively fast lens. In a normal capacity its dead sharp in all applications no matter what your light conditions inside or out. I have even used this lens for wedding portraits and got great results. As with all Sigma lenses the build quality is excellent as is the glass giving it the feel of a lens costing a whole lot more. As for accessories I would reccomend both a UV filter as well as a good CPL. Size wise it is what I would rate medium sized (as opposed to my Sigma 50-500mm) this makes it easy to manipulate and use in the field. If you are a Nikon user remove the lens hood and you will get amazing results using your pop-up flash! (Canon doesn't do as well with this.)Now. If you are into pictures of the great outdoors the next thing I would add is a 2x teleconverter, Sigma claims this lens is not compatable with them and in a sense its not. But if you are willing to manually focus, and adjust the F stops your self you can pump this baby up to a 140-600mm super-telephoto!! I have one of these lenses for both of the SLR's I use (Canon 20D & Nikon D200) and with both using the teleconverter I do have to focus manually but they will meter light! Be prepared however results may be different on your camera. So bottom line is your looking for a great quality lens at a price you can live with? This is it. Are you a new or about to be new digital SLR user? This should be your first lens no question. Canon and Nikon lenses do focus faster and quieter, but what are you doing with that camera that you need to be so fast and quiet anyway? This lens is on either one or both of my cameras all the time, and when you shoot pictures for a living that says alot. Until next time be well and happy shooting!SiNMiN

5Excellent
By simlife
I rarely write reviews for stuff I buy on Amazon, but I felt I needed to share my thoughts on this lens.Sigma has always been a better "out of the box" experience than Canon, which unfortunately does not see fit to ship a $6 hood for a $600 lens. Sigma gives you a carrying case and a hood. The "feel" of this lens is excellent. It's tight (no focus creep), and a sort of rubberized matte finish that just screams "pro". Top marks here. From an optical standpoint, the lens is incredibly good, considering the price. I fired off about 70 shots outside to test the aperture at the different focal ranges. Yes, there is some softness at 300mm, but this can be mostly offset by stopping it down to 4.0. The rest of the focal range is fine. I used my Rebel XT and a Canon UV filter (50mm) for the tests. In the macro mode, there's excellent contrast and saturation, and very good bokeh.Focus is a little slow, but then maybe I'm spoiled by the Canon glass, which focuses like nothing else. Still, there's very little hunting here, except in lower ambient light. This is not an indoor lens, nor is it a walkaround utility one. But for telephoto work and even a bit of macro (as it were), it's an extremely good deal. All in all, I'd highly recommend getting this, especially as a first-time telephoto for people who are getting into DSLRs. The closest Canon equivalent is about $100 more expensive, and I don't believe it comes with a hood or case.

I've been using these lights for a few years now and they've held up very well. I've dropped the stand a few times so they have some scratches, but they still work just as they did when I bought them. Easy to control settings on the back too. :)

Nice cart, l needed to transport 200-300lbs at a time and this does the job. Be advised the bottom shelf is not flat like the top. I cut the lip off on one side to make sliding heavy objects on & off easy and the shelf still seems to have plenty of strength.

2Proceed with caution
By Karl G. Fife
I suggest you think twice before you commit to this switch. While it's great that it's small and fanless, I've replaced the unit TWICE because it developed several 'dead' POE ports. The Ethernet function continues to work, but the POE function has failed on several ports. Instead of 8 POE and 8 regular ports, I now have 6 POE and 10 regular ports.YES, the manufacturer has a LIFETIME warranty, but they also have a $20 FEE for advance-replacements. What's the alternative to paying this fee? You can't just shut down your network for 3 weeks while you wait for a replacement! According to support there is no 'Second Generation' version that fixes the problem so I expect that the re-replacement [sic] will also fail. Too bad.UPDATE August 2009:As I suspected, another failure. That's three failures in as many years. Today the power on ALL POE devices (IP phones) began cutting being in and out. The device is LIGHTLY loaded, far below the published power rating. I was tempted to solve the problem by smashing the device with a hammer, then setting it on fire, then throwing it out the window. I suspect that the device was just improperly designed. That is, I suspect it gets too hot, and needs to be cooled with a fan despite its fanless design.UPDATE September 2009:Netgear replaced it for us AGAIN, this time for free. We went ahead and paid the $20 again for advance replacement, which covered shipping both ways. However Netgear accidentally charged the credit card THREE times. After three phone calls at about 20 minutes each I finally got through to someone who was able to reverse two of the three charges. BONUS, as an act of good faith for the multiple device failures and billing error, Netgear went ahead and refunded us for ALL charges. In other words the advanced replacement ended up being completely free to us.Naturally I'd have gladly paid the $20 not to be on the phone with them for 3x20 minutes, but I was pleased with Netgear's small gesture. Call me naive, but their small act of good faith makes me feel a little better about their intent (at least) to build reliable products. I'm slightly more hopeful that my situation is a statistical outlier.UPDATE March 2012Years later, our replacement continues to function properly. HOWEVER this may be due to the installation of a external fan. We placed a SILENT 120mm 12v DC "chassis/case fan" on the shelf between our router and Netgear PoE Switch. Air is drawn across one, and is blown past the other. The switch (and our router) now operate absolutely cool to the touch.I can't say with confidence whether the fan is the reason the replacement switch has been so reliable over the past years. I CAN say with confidence that it's a GREAT idea to install a small silent 12v DC fan near ANY/ALL of your fanless devices, including switches, modems, WiFi devices, routers, Terminal Adapters etc. Even if the fan isn't directly responsible for the longevity in this specific case, there is a mountain of evidence showing that devices last longer when kept cool.

5Reliable, running continuously for over a year now.
By Timothy Lam
I have been using this switch for over a year now and it has worked flawlessly without requiring any reboot (I attached it to a 500VA Tripp Lite UPS). I used it to power 4 Panasonic Poe IP cameras over CAT-6 Ethernet cables (2 of which are over 100-feet away) with zero drop outs. All four of these cameras are also outputting 640x480 30fps video simultaneously with no drop-out. Just plug in and go, setup can't be easier. As an added bonus, it has vents on the left, right and back for ventilation to keep it cool without any fan noise.

4Silent and functional
By J. Fraser
The high point of this switch is that it's PoE but silent. Ours is powering 6 toshiba IP telephone handsets. It did have one glitch in the first week where it needed to be power cycled (indicators on the switch indicated a fault for all ports.) but since then, it's been on for two months without a problem. The low: PoE is only available on the first 8 ports. and there is no management of this switch: no QoS, no remote monitoring, &c. I've heard the specs don't provide for full PoE wattage to each of the 8 ports either, but it's fine for 8 of our IP handsets.
