Product Description

BBE is at the forefront of audio technology which allows amplified music to sound more natural, and the latest generation of BBE High Definition Sound technology is a vital element to the new Acoustimax acoustic preamp. In the four years since BBE last offered its award-winning 386 acoustic preamp, BBE’s design and engineering team studied the serious acoustic player's needs for both recording and sound reinforcement. The result is Acoustimax, a foot-pedal-style (or “stomp-box-style”) acoustic preamp which raises the bar for amplified acoustic instrument sound quality. Acoustimax is packed with features including three band, recording-console quality eq with a sweepable mid -range band, low frequency notch filter, phase reversal, ground lift, line level out, dedicated tuner out and TRS effects loop, even a pre/post switchable-balanced DI output with pad. Other features include hard-wire bypass, non-slip rubber bottom and the included 12v power supply.

4Great Acoustic Preamp
By Nerd Alert
This a great preamp for an acoustic guitar. It is probably the most feature-laden Direct Box you'll find. It has both a 1/4 inch and a XLR output. It has plenty of adjustments for tone controls. The mute switch is also great for when I'm not playing my acoustic at a show. That way I don't have to rely on the sound man to mute it. A very versatile preamp indeed.

5WOW! GREAT preamp for acoustic AND electric!
By danno
I must confess that after two years, I've finally sat down and learned how to use this thing and - WOW it's amazing! The manual is pretty crappy so I had to google it up, but once I did I was on my way.The EQ is grrrreat! The notch-cut filter is phenomenal and the quality of the unit seems outstanding. Features an adjustable freq selector for the mids, as well as for the notch-cut filter for the mids. Everything else works as expected. The only part that I had to figure out was the notch-cut and the sonic maximizer. The notch-cut is always on (but you can set to a zero level)Frequency selects the frequency, and notch adjusts the level. The Process and Lo Contour only work with the sonic maximzer on. Basically the Process feels like a brightness control, and the Lo Contour feels like a warmth control. It probably works a lot better for acoustics, but I am currently using it for an electric guitar. Can't compare it with anything else as this is the first real EQ preamp I've bought, but I have no regrets and it's an awesome unit!!!The one gripe is the fat AC adaptor with the tiny wires... Seems very fragile! Jeez, at least beef up the cable BBE! But besides that, 10 stars!

5Great Preamp/DI for Mandolin
By A. Gianni
I play mandolin for my church band and needed something to plug into the PA. After looking at all the preamp and DI options out there, I settled on the Acoustimax and I'm happy I did. I spent a good deal of time looking at the options. Other boxes I seriously considered included:LR Baggs Para Acoustic D.I.UltraSound DI Max Acoustic Guitar Preamp BrownFishman PRO-EQ Platinum Preamp/EQ/DISansAmp Para Driver DIUnfortunately I don't live in an area where I could check any of these out in person, so I can't comment on an aural comparison. I should also add that Amazon sold this for less than it's current $199 price tag when I bought it. I don't recall exactly how much I paid, ($169, maybe?) but I want to say it was roughly equivilant to the Fishman and UltraSound at the time. Given the price and the additional features it seemed like a no-brainer. Stuff I love about it:* The mute switch is nice for between songs. I don't want to accidentally pluck some strings through the PA while the pastor is praying :)* I keep a tuner plugged into the dedicated tuner out. Theoretically I could use the regular line out but whatever.* The parametic EQ really lets you dial in your sound.* The Sonic Maximizer is nice. I could certainly do without it and considered it a bonus but it really adds some depth and warmth to your sound. I'd be hard pressed to quantify what it does, though. So I've been using this for about six months now on a weekly basis and it's doing exactly what I hoped. Definitely highly recommended.
