Does the job well!

Based on its ability to do what it claims, I give this unit five stars. This is a dual CD player for DJ use that also accepts data CD's filled with MP3 files. With proper planning you can fill up 2 CD's with MP3's, place one in each deck, and play an entire set, possibly 2 or 3 (reminder: use high quality MP3 files!) A single CD containing MP3 files can hold hours worth of files--even using higher quality MP3s in 192-320 range, or Variable Bit Rate. This unit lacks all the nifty features that people look for in high end CD Decks, such as smooth "scratching", multiple CUE points, reverse playback, and many others. Instead, the C501 focuses on bare basics: you can mix and beat-match a great set of music. If you are rhythimcally inclined, you should find the PLAY/CUE buttons responsive and musical in terms of hitting downbeats. Those DJs who require a vinyl feel to do proper beatmatching might find this unit cumbersome; you have to learn the 'feel' of the buttons. Of course, those seeking the ultimate CD deck will be shelling out $1000 each (yes, that's about $2000 for two awesome CD decks). When lining up CUE points this unit delivers a stuttering sound that is perfectly useful, but takes some getting-used-to. For under $300 this dual-CD unit really takes care of business for an amateur or professional who needs to live-mix digital audio data. Assuming durability and a long healthy lifespan, this unit should keep a 5 star rating.
