Great for dusting wool oriental rugs.

(One clarification => I use the 12 inch vacuum with this brush for the 12, not the 16 inch.)It's important with wool rugs to be able to "dust" the rugs from the back side to release the soil that gets inside of the fibers. You cannot get it all by vacuuming from the top side (and the bristles can be too abrasive on fibers if you vacuum often).Sanitaire vacuums are long lasting, and give you what you need from the "top" side of you are a consumer, but for those of you in the professional cleaning arena, when you need to remove the pounds of grit and soil that gets embedded in these rugs before you wash them, this bar in the Sanitaire helps give you the vibration and shaking that helps to dislodge the soil by vacuuming slowly along the back of the rug to shake it out to the front.A wool rug can hold a pound of soil in a square foot before it "looks" dirty, because wool has layers of cuticles that "hide" soil well. It's for this reason alone rugs are to never be cleaned IN the home, because you need to remove that soil before you get the rug wet - which does not happen when rugs are cleaned in the home, and not doing that causes damage to the rugs over time.This vacuum helps the professional cleaner get more out of the rugs before the wash process begins. Other tools work well also - but this is the one I use in my own rug washing and repair shop.
