Perrin PSP-ENG-100 Lightened Crank Pulleys Product Description:

  • Subaru STi (04 and up)

Product Description

Built for the (04 and up) Subaru STi... Made from 6061T6 aluminum and weighing in at 1.2lbs, the PERRIN pulley is more then 4 lbs lighter then the stock crank pulley. The PERRIN pulley is not under driven and will not affect the life of your engine. The pulley is a redesigned, lighter rendering of the stock crank pulley.Aftermarket, under driven, pulleys are prone to charging and drivability problems from being excessively under driven. The PERRIN Performance lightened crank pulley will have no effect on your cars charging system. The PERRIN Performance pulley achieves power and performance by reducing the rotating mass of the crank assembly. That reduction is effectively the same as removing 100 pounds of weight from your vehicle. The PERRIN Performance pulley will not wear out engine bearings or the oil pump, and will not add any additional vibration or noise.

3Worthwhile with other upgrades, but shouldn't be first upgrade.

FYI, This is the same part number for all 1993-2011 years 2.0L and 2.5L engine subaru models. I don't know why Amazon does not state that compatibility as it would definitely help sell more of them.I have this installed on a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Sedan with a Manual transmission. My egnine block is stock at this point, but I am running a bigger turbo, fuel system, cold air intake, and larger intercooler. This is very easy to install yourself. I don't know how this is on the WRX or other subaru models, but on the legacy, it will be best to get a breaker bar with a short attachment (this means when you put the socket on the bar, it does not extend out very far). You will need to squeeze the upper radiator coolant line to fit the bar down to the pulley. So if you are looking to get this for your manual transmission, you will not see much of a gain in power, you will notice a faster throttle response if you are quickly trying to rev your car up at a stop to build intake manifold pressure with your turbo. The throttle response is a little quicker with a manual transmission, but from what I understand, the benefit of a lightened crank pulley is more noticeable in an automatic transmission. The goal with these are to reduce rotating mass. As you reduce weight in your cars drivetrain, you will see quicker power delivery. Something this minor really does not contribute to much power increases, but does contribute to quicker power delivery. I would first recommend getting a higher flowing air intake as that will also help throttle response and a drop in aftermarket air filter is cheaper. If you are going to be upgrading your turbo or putting in some new lightweight clutch flywheel, then this might be worthwhile to upgrade along the way. In my opinion, bang for buck is not really there in a stock drivetrain.
