5Proper Use
By John D. Williamson
The reason people are getting underexposed images is they are trying to use these light for purposes that are not what they were intended for. If you lights are within 3 to 4 feet from your subject you will have plenty of light for a portrait. Check out what Scott Kelby says about them on youtube.

5Excellent Lighting -- definitely simulates daylight!!
By C. A. HAMPTON
I am in love with my new TD5!! I used it last weekend to shoot portraits and with the camera set to ISO 200, the shots were perfect with plenty of light. The reviewer before me may not have been using reflectors to fill in the shadows. I had a gold reflector at camera left, white foam core at camera right, and white foam core beneath my subject and tilted upwards. This is a much easier setup than strobes and I am thrilled with the results. Highly recommended!

2Buy strobes instead
By Elizabeth A. Kaplan
These lights produce nice daylight balanced light. However, they are VERY dim even with all five bulbs on. This means that even with an ISO of 400, F4.0 and 1/30, you will still get somewhat underexposed, blurry images if you are photographing people. Additionally, the stem for the stand is not balanced on the head. This means that they are very unwieldy and hard to tip up and down. You can get strobes for much less money and they will give you much more versatility. I really wanted to like these lights and am very disappointed in their performance. I really don't understand why they are more expensive than strobes. One would think that the lack of mechanics needed for such a light would keep the cost down.
