5Very nice cage
By two cats and a dog
I really wanted to write a review for this since there are none on this site. If you would like to read more reviews, check out the Petco site. I have one female canary (who previously lived in a Vision brand cage) and two pairs of zebra finches (previously lived in a no-name birdcage) housed in this cage. When making my purchase, I researched lots of flight cages and was deciding between this one and the Prevue brand flight cage- the white one with the roof. I decided to go with this one because of the flat cage roof. The angled roof pieces are above the cage, not part of it, and I knew from another review that a light fits perfectly here. I purchased it in December; it is now February. There were a couple of things that bothered me at first. First of all, the wires of this cage are thicker than those of a typical canary/finch birdcage, and it makes the cage look a bit dark and bulky-- especially if, like me, you are not used to such a large cage in your house. The wire diameter may not matter to you, but what happens is that if you have any baths or seed/treat holders that snap on to cage wires they won't fit. For me I was a bit sad at first. Now I like the wide wires, I think they are easier to wipe down and I place fruits/veggies/treats on a paper plate on the bottom of the cage instead of in holders. Second, there is only one door, albeit a big one. I can fit most of my upper body in, enough to clean off the back bars of the cage, but a larger person would have issues. There are three small doors that hold the three food bowls, but I don't use them and you couldn't fit your hand in there anyway. FYI: I put all edibles in the bottom portion of the cage. There are no seed guards included with the cage, and at first it was very messy. Then I bought a few of those rolls of clear plastic seed guard and cut them to size so they threaded through the bars. I don't have any more issues with seeds all over my floor since the plastic contains the mess very well. What I really like about this cage is the roof and how easy it is to clean. I have an avian light (from Featherbrite) installed on top of the cage, under the roof unit. It makes the cage look so bright and pretty, and the birds love it. The cord fits right under the roof and hangs neatly down the side of the cage. I also like the way the metal bottom tray pulls out separately from the grate. The bottom tray is very heavy since it is metal. It might be too heavy for some people to pull it all the way out for deep cleaning and then lift it and push it back in. But it does pull out easily like a drawer for daily paper changes, and I don't worry that it will bend and/or crack like a plastic one might. That is all I can think of. At first I had buyer's remorse about this cage because it was so expensive and so bulky looking (compared to my smaller individual cages). But like I've said, I really like it now. It is well made and has less of a birdcage look to it than some large flight cages I've seen. I like the white color-- it looks kind of cottage style. The light under the roof makes a huge difference. The birds are very happy, they like their home too. One more thing: the cage is higher than some I looked at. I mean off-the-ground high, almost mid-thigh height. I like this because my cat can't look in unless she stretches up. I was worried with other flight cages that they are so low to the ground that the cat would make it a habit to sit on the floor and watch the birds, scaring them. Also (one more last thing): I put the cage together myself. I found a video of how to do it on some website and I also followed the included directions. Some of the base pieces had to be hammered and forced a bit but that seems to be typical of these large cages. Other pieces were a tad unwieldy because of their size. I'm not a do-it-youself type and am on the petite side, but I am healthy and strong. I thought it was pretty easy to assemble. No tools are needed as there are no screws or bolts. The wheels are great and roll smoothly although the gold color is a bit tacky.
