Product Description

Whether you're looking for a CD player to compliment your Tivoli Audio Model Two Stereo Radio, or your Model One Radio, or are in need of a compact CD player to add to a home stereo system, the Model CD satisfies on all counts. Its unique front-loading slot design permits more placement flexibility over larger, tray-loading players, or pop-open top designs. The Black Ash wood cabinet is a refreshing change from the sterile, metal boxes so ubiquitous in electronics stores. And as is the tradition with all Tivoli Audio products, the Model CD couldn't be easier to use. Features include a large, easy to read front panel display paired with the primary controls. The credit card sized remote control adds Shuffle, Repeat, Volume, Intro, and Direct Track Access functions. On the inside, the Model CD yields excellent sound quality and superb shock protection. The back panel includes full size RCA outputs and a 1/8-inch stereo headphone output for private listening. The Model CD will play any standard CD as well as CDR. Includes AC adapter and stereo RCA to stereo 1/8-inch mini plug connecting cable and credit card remote control.

5Good sound and good value
By John C. Fortney
This unit was easy to set up and sounds great for its size (much better than the higher price Bose system). The styling and build quality are excellent.I have a few minor quibles. It would be nice to have bass and treble controls on the main unit (although I rarely find myself wanting to make adjustments). The icons (play, stop, rewind) are very hard to read. After turning on the power to the CD player, you cannot eject the CD until it starts to play, which seems unecessary.

5Last of a kind
By Samuel Chell
Soon I suspect that CD players, now becoming as obsolete as turntables, will be eliminated even from automobiles. So if yours is a CD-heavy collection, the Tivoli CD player is a solid value. I can guess that there are complaints about slow and erratic performance, but unlike personal portable CD players, this one has gone the distance. [Tip: When the going is dicy, unplug it for a few moments and replug.]Just a couple of alerts: Tivoli prices them between three and four hundred, depending upon finishes. I still fail to see any differences in the two Black/Silver models except the price--one is a hundred more.2nd major alert: Tivoli is scrambling to catch up with the enormous revolution in the way people now listen to music--a sea change that the average guy has yet to grasp. LPs, CDs, full-frequency sound sources such as that from clean and powerful FM transmitters--all of that is being replaced by internet sound (a mere ten years ago internet audio was tantamount to 2 Dixie cups and a string). Internet audio, in turn, has made it possible for listeners to store their entire collections in "Clouds" and, in effect, to carry it with them on their smart phone or other device. Wires are out--replaced by Bluetooth and a couple of other technologies like Apple's Airplay (wireless can still be erratic and undependable, except for the measurable inferior quality of the audio). Of course the audio of both internet transmissions and wireless connectivity is not as good, but few people seem to notice, especially in the guitar-driven vocal ensembles that most listen to.So Tivoli is being forced to compromise quality and become less traditional and conservative in order to survive. But you can be the winner. Ignore their plastic devices (the iPal was my first major disappointment from this company). Instead, go to their site and be on the look-out for steep discounts on the quality components. Consider, instead of this CD player, the one that's part of a complete stereo system with clock radio and inputs for iPods. Ignore the reviews that say nothing about classical music or mainstream jazz (where discernment of walking bass pitches and shimmering brilliant ride cymbal is paramount). Chances are the negative reviews are from younger writers who listen mainly to their favorite rock bands since the '60s. But good audio is about more than power in the mid-range and some thumping in the bass. It's about the "accurate" representations of the many orchestral colors in a many shaded palette that's true to the original audio source--that's being utterly faithful to the original sound, that's "High Fidelity.: The Tivoli traditional Hi Fi System is 2nd to none. The problem is deciding whether to put it on your nightstand (as clock radio on steroids) or in the living room, where it can convert your entire 2-story into a concert hall.As for internet sound, Bluetooth and Air Play, and Clouds all over the place--go for it, if you plan on living forever. Otherwise, take the little of it that is immediately useful (say, an iPod Nano for playing your downloaded music files on trips). Much of the rest, when you look into it closely, has not improved the quality of life for chronically plugged-in Americans. (Certainly, more people are not discovering the Berg Violin Concerto or the Bartok string quartets.)

5Nice and Simple
By AvidReader
We loved this little CD player. Perhaps we missed the fact that it has to be connected to another electronic source to hear the sound. After we got through that hurdle, we connected it to our Bose radio, and the sound is beautiful. I wish, however, that the manufacturer had emphasized that it requires an auxiliary hook up to work.
