Product Description

Made in America, MXL’s V6 is a large diaphragm, pressure-gradient condenser microphone that provides the warmth and clarity of sound previously available only with vintage tube microphones. The V6 is the first offering in MXL’s new Silicon Valve product line. Made with the finest components and the highest degree of attention to detail, this is the microphone that has the industry doing second takes. The MXL V6 Silicon Valve™ large diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone provides the sound of a tube without the noise and drawbacks of multiple cables and external power supplies. The unique design employs solid-state FET amplifier techniques to simulate what tubes do naturally. The V6 comes complete with microphone clip and wooden case.

4A beautiful, very good-sounding microphone
By JOSEPH DEROSA
I've been performing and recording music for over 25 years. I bought the MXL V6 because it's supposed to sound like a tube mic. I compared it with my Rode NT2A, an excellent LDC (not a tube), and I could not tell them apart! I recorded (into a Roland VS2400) male vocal, acoustic guitar, and violin at different distances, and they sound identical to me. (Maybe better preamps would bring out a difference.) The V6 is slightly hotter by maybe 2 or 3 dB. Keep in mind; that the V6 sounds like the Rode is a good thing, but I was hoping for a warmer, tube-like sound. If you can afford it, get the Rode instead; it's built better and has pattern, filter and bass cut switches. Another similar mic is the Audio-Technica AT3035. I'll say this: The V6 is even more beautiful than it looks in the pictures, and I hate to let it go. My quest for the tube sound continues...
