3Hit & miss

We bought 2 of these monitors for gifts. One was perfect, the other had burned out pixels. Amazon replaced the defective one in the blink of an eye, with prepaid postage labels to boot. The replacement monitor was here in 2 days. BUT-it also had burned out pixels. This time Amazon said it would give us a refund "As it seems that the problem with this item is more widespread than we originally thought". I would look for a deal on another brand.

Basically I regret buying this monitor. I should have paid attention to customer comments on another review site, but the Viewsonic name and low price convinced me to buy it. BIG MISTAKE, I get headaches and eye fatigue from this LCD, who gets those from an LCD??? Gaming looks terrible, while there is zero ghosting there is a strange grainey look to games(F.E.A.R., Half-life 2) which looked great on my old CRT.Viewsonic may have a good reputation but this particular model is a bad buy. Oh yeah, I've got dead pixels as well. They are in areas that do not bother me at all though(top right corner, one very faint on left side of screen) but still a dead pixel is a dead pixel.

5Very nice inexpensive monitor
By L. Henry Wood
I disregarded the extremely negative reviews about the 702B here and purchased the monitor anyway. Other information resources provided much higher unilateral marks. Additionally, I have years of experience with ViewSonic and have never had a poor one.The monitor arrived and was installed. There were no dead pixels and it functioned perfectly out of the box, even before the drivers were installed. The monitor itself is very attractive and imagery colors vivid and sharp. I have noted no ghosting at all. The refresh rate appears to satisfy the most video intensive and demanding games my grandkids enjoy.I did, however, determine that matching my video card resolution to the 702b optimum native resolution(1280x1024) enhances a game's appearance and performance substantially. Our preferred resolution setting(1024 X 768) produces absolutely no problems with other applications and is not an issue. It only takes a few moments to make the change and is well worth the effort, rest assured. Onboard controls are adequate for critical adjustments. The default brightness was a bit high, but that was because the video card had been adjusted for the original monitor. A quick tweak on the card control panel resolved the minor problem immediately, adding even more richness and depth to the color and contrast. I strongly recommend that you synchronize your video card with the monitor to achieve maximum viewing pleasure.A wonderful key feature is the full 90+ degree tilt ability of the screen structure. Too many of the monitors offered these days are on a fixed pedestal. This feature is important for use in a room where light variations and glare may occur. The 702b has no height adjustment, but the one they chose as standard is ideal. It is not as defined as my 19" Sony, but it didn't cost $700 either.I purchased the unit for a Dell 8100 that I retired to our beach home, replacing a bulky 17" CRT monitor. The 702B is a terrific value, yet does not compromise quality for that advantage. Many visitors at our second home comment about the fine images the 702b produces, thus this opinion is shared by others as well. So, I am a happy camper responding to the mixed bag of reviews here at Amazon. I hope it provides others with additional insight before making a purchase decision.
