This pointer has a negative feedback circuit (APC = Automatic Power Control) that insures that the output power will not exceed 5mW. This makes them more suitable for indoor use. It has a small green LED placed just above the "ON" button to show when the pointer is radiating. Do not drop your laser pointer onto a hard surface. Do not look into the path of the laser beam. Direct eye contact with a laser beam may cause eye injury! Do not direct your pointer at cars, airplanes or other vehicles, windows of houses, around the eyes of any person or animal, mirrors or other highly reflective surfaces-the beam will be reflected to an unknown location. Keep the pointer out of the reach of children. Modifying or tampering with the pointer components can cause a malfunction. When not in actual use, keep the pointer inside the foam rubber lined steel case, and remove the batteries to relieve the spring from tension. High quality STABLE green pointer

A few months ago, I purchased a cheaper green pointer from the Amazon site. It worked ok, but was not very stable, and could change from dim to "too darn bright" depending on temperature, length of "on time" and other factors that I never quite figured out.Although this pointer is more expensive, it produces a very predictable light output that is more than bright enough for presentation purposes, and is STABLE thanks to a built-in regulation circuit (APC). It can be used as an astronomy pointer, only if it is fairly dark outside.It has the look and feel of a quality product.
