Excellent set

I bought this from Amazon for Christmas last year, and it is a truly well built set. The chess board is a thick solid piece (about 10/16, raised about 1/16 above the edging on the underside), not veneers, and mine consists of beautiful walnut and maple. Both woods found right here in the USA. The squares are approximately 1.75 inches per side, making the actual playing surface 14 inches a side not including any edging. With the walnut edging, the surface is 18 inches a side. The playing surface is flush on the exterior, and slightly raised (about 1/16") on the other side. There are effectively 2 playing surfaces (the underside and the outside). The finish work is of very high quality, with all of the edges slightly rounded. The pieces themselves are solid with a 3 inch king. I personally prefer better looking hand carved pieces, but those can easily run you the cost of this entire set. For the cost, the quality of the chess pieces here are excellent.The backgammon board has a leather exterior and leather dice cups with beautiful marble like pieces. The checkers pieces are made of solid wood.Finally, this is all made in the USA and there has been attention to detail in every piece. You aren't going to go wrong with this set.
