5Caution: Do Not Overfill
By Linebacker
My wife and I bought the T-fal deepfryer and we love it. I read all the reviews and noted that one person had complained of finding that his T-fal deep fryer had leaked oil all over the counter. Finding few bad reviews, we decided to buy it. Sure enough, after the fryer cooled and the oil emptied into the reservoir there was oil all over the counter. It did not take a rocket scientist to figure out the reason. When we filled it prior to turning it on, we had a gallon jug of cooking oil which we emptied into fryer. A gallon is 3.78 liters (16 cups) and the capacity of the reservoir is 3.3 liters (14 cups). We noticed when we filled it that it was slightly over the max line but did not give it a second thought. Unfortunately, when the machine cooled and the oil drained into the reservoir, the extra two cups of oil had no where to go but onto the counter. THERE IS NO FUDGE FACTOR ON THE MAX LINE, DO NOT OVERFILL IT. Any oil that is over the Max line will end up all over your counter. We learned our lesson and have not overfilled it since. After that fist incident we have used our T-fal deep fryer several times and it works perfectly. The food comes out perfect, clean up is a snap and we would never trade it for anything else.

3Maybe I didn't want a fryer after all
By nozama
This is my first home deep fryer. My only other experience is with professional fryers in restaurant settings. Therefore, this review is more for those, like me, who haven't deep fried at home.I guess the main thing I learned so far is frying is not as simple as some other modes of cooking - you're going to be using nearly a gallon of oil that has to heat before and cool after. Like another review pointed out, when the oil is at cooking temperature, it puts out a lot of oil vapor and odor in the air, so unless you use it in a very well ventilated area, your kitchen and house will reek. Bottom line: deep frying takes a bit of commitment. So what about the fryer? Most of the reviews I read about this seemed to be pretty much on the mark. Here's my primary thoughts:- The unit has a decent sized capacity.- Most all if it can go in the dishwasher, but will take up half or more of the dishwasher space - this thing is not tiny.- The heating element thermostat is a dial with numbers marked on it - in other words, it is not digital, so I feel I should get a thermometer to confirm the oil temperature.- A selling point on this rig, at least for me, is the automatic filtering of the oil. (This amounts to a drain in the bottom of the fry chamber with a metal screen). I moved the fryer out to my garage after it had cooled for a couple hours, hoping reduce the smell of oil in my kitchen, in the morning I found it in a small pool of oil - several ounces of oil either did not make it to the storage container. Either it leaked out of the top of the oil reservoir because its top didn't seal or it leaked as it was filtering from the fry chamber. Someone else's review claimed a much larger spill, making me think one must be very careful getting the reservoir properly sealed and positioned. My plan is to put a large cooking sheet pan under the entire unit next time. Yes, there will be a next time, although my review may not sound glowingly positive, I think this is a good unit. I just wanted to provide a review that will help someone else make the right decision for themselves. For me, if I knew what an impact frying has on the overall environment of the kitchen, I made have gone a different route. I plan to install a vent in my kitchen this year, in the meant ime, I will likely use this like my gas grill - outside.

5Almost perfect....
By Stephen Ressel
This machine is brilliantly simple, easy to use, easy to take apart and clean, and so well thought out it might not have another that can best it.Downside: the odor filter really doesn't filter that much, or that well. You still get huge plumes of vaporous oil rising up, and unless you use it under a hood your house will be a greasy mess. Luckily the design comes with two plastic side handles so you can easily move it on and off of the stove top where it can billow into your vent hood.

5Perfect Rifle Case and Very Versatile
By retrodog
I've been hauling my rifles around for years. Some of them are quite expensive and I wanted something that would protect them well. This case has three layers of foam. The two side layers are left solid to protect the contents, while the middle layer can be custom cut to almost any shape you need. That locks in the gun without putting too much pressure on it like cheaper cases. Making the cutouts just a bit smaller than the gun shape will keep them nice and tight, but still easy to insert and remove. The plastic exterior is fairly thick and very rugged. It looks and feels like it would take a good beating and hold up just fine. There are four very thick heavy-duty clasps that hold it closed. Hinges and material feel very solid. No apparent weak spots in the moving parts. One side, at one end, of the case has two small diameter wheels. These wheels are fairly wide though and made of some very hard rubber material. Pelican put an extra carry handle at the other end of the case so that you could just grab that end and let the other end roll along on the floor, cutting your carry weight in half. There is also the traditional side handle though in case you want to carry it in the conventional manner. There's also a little pressure release valve for pressure equalization or some such thing, but I haven't fiddled around with that at all so I'm not really sure how useful it is.All-in-all I'd have to say that this is one tough cookie. I've been using it for about 6-7 years and it has held up well. I'd get another one exactly like it in a heartbeat.Oh, and another feature that I'd like to point out is the availability of additional foam inserts. For about $50 you can get a 3-pack. With that, you can have four different sets of custom cutouts for various gun combinations that you might want to carry. I did this and can quickly switch from one that has my AR-10 and AR15, over to another that supports my MP5 and MP5K, along with accessories. Or another switch and I can carry the HK91 and HK93.

5Why buy anything other than a Pelican??
By 50BMG Shooter
To start with, I live by the saying "you get what you pay for". YES, Pelican brand cases are expensive. YES, you can find similar cases much cheaper. NO, they aren't the same! I own MANY different brands of cases, and if you're just transporting a gun or two from your home to the range, ok fine. A Plano or similar case will "work". If you plan on transporting your gun on a plane somewhere, or you have a high quality expensive firearm (or camera equipment, computer parts, etc), then just "works" doesn't work for me. I have purchased other Pelican cases in the past, and with good reason. They have the highest quality, the most durable materials, and stand behind their products 100%.Pros:Durable, high impact case with 4 latches AND lock eyelets with steel rings for securityhigh quality foam inserts, not the cheap egg crate foamautomatic pressure release valveTSA approved for airline travel (NOTE, not ALL cases can be carried on a plane!high impact wheels for easy transport, also has a top carry handle to give you optionsCons:the case itself is very heavy. you could drive a car or truck over the case and it wouldn't break. Once you load a 10-15lb rifle (or in my case, a 35lb rifle) it's a bit of a chore regardless.price is high - yes, but again you can't expect high quality AND a cheap price. That's not how it worksfoam is somewhat difficult to work with. Plan on spending some time PREPARING to do your cutouts. You don't want to mess it up, since replacement foam is upwards of $30. Plan, draw, review, THEN cut! That's my review in a nutshell. Hope it helps!

5A great case at a fair price!!!!
By Grizz41626
A lot of people don't think that you need to spend this kind of money on a case, but take it from me it matters! I've been shooting competitively for years now and nothing is worse than buying a cheap case and having to completely reset your optics after a flight. Spend the money upfront or waste time afterwards just getting back to square one. This is my third pelican case so now I don't have to switch out the inserts when I bring different setups. But switching the foam inserts is a way to save a little money if you want. Also if your looking for a double firearm case for an AR-15 style weapons system you can usually do it with this case. Although if you are going to try and put two 20" barrel AR-15 it's going to be really tight. Also be careful cutting the foam make sure you have the layout exactly how you want it before you start cutting or you can end up with a real mess!

5Great platform for open source firmware
By G. Frank
Best features for the open-source router firmware enthusiast:- built in pre-amp on Rx and power amp on Tx. Note that it's not real MIMO as the name might lead you to believe, but the amps make it have "MIMO-like performance" (which I've found is true).- high gain antenna- so it has a better S/N ratio than the Linksys WRT54GL, which has been the defacto standard- support for 'afterburner' protocol (ie. 125 Mbit/s)- Widely supported by open source firmware, eg. OpenWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato, X-Wrt, etc. And those enable it to have the most wonderful features, eg: - WMM for smooth VOIP calls using T-Mobile's UMA phones - WDS for creating a set of cascaded routers blanketing a large area - Adjusting the power output directly on the Atheros on-board chip - WPA2 with AES (WPA2 more secure than WPA, AES encryption scheme faster than TKIP), plus the ability to support mixed modes so that older devices that don't support WPA2/AES can use WPA/TKIP) - and so much more. If you don't know about the merits of open source router firmware, you should read up!Challenges:- DD-WRT, OpenWrt, X-Wrt, Tomato or other open source firmware needs to be flashed with TFTP - you can't do it with the web GUI. But it's easy. Just requires timing the transfer as you switch it on.- Buffalo encrypts their firmware so if you screw it up and want to revert back to Buffalo firmware, you can't just upload it from the web gui of whatever firmware you've installed. You have to upload the decrypted version from DD-WRT's site, and then from there you can upload the latest Buffalo version from their website.Note: because of the built-in power amp, you shouldn't just set the power output to jam out as much juice as it can. That will make the output signal distort and actually decrease the range. I found that the best S/N ratio is obtained at about 75 mW. (Default setting is 28 mW).

4This one's a keeper!
By Kevin Nicholls
After my trusty Netgear router died on me, I decided to "step up" and get a pre-N router. The experience was less than delightful. Then I decided to give the Linksys WRT54GX4 a try. It was okay for a little while, but started dropping connections like crazy after a week or so.Finally, after lots more research, I decided on the Buffalo and DD-WRT firmware. Talk about striking gold!My connection hasn't dropped in weeks, and the throughput is considerably better than most WAP's and wireless routers I've used. I installed DD-WRT out of the box, so I can't really speak to the quality of the built-in firmware, but the hardware is excellent.I've pushed the signal power to the mid 100's and overclocked the processor, with no obvious signs of overheating. So while this doesn't have the heatsink that the lower-priced version has, I haven't noticed any heat issues. My only gripe is that the link lights for wired connections are above the ports in the back. That's great for a racked switch in a server room, but not so good for keeping an eye on things at home. Otherwise, I would have given this product a solid 5.

5Best Router Ever
By S. Lancaster
Due to security reasons, I wanted to update my 802.11b dlink network to the g network. After trying the every (and I mean every) 802.11g router on the market, I firmly decided on this Buffalo router and I couldn't be any happier! Linksys just wouldn't work with my Bellsouth DSL connection (even after trying PPOE settings), Netgear just did not perform adequately (range was very short and setting it up was a major ordeal). I would have been extremely satisfied with the Belkin routers (MIMO and not MIMO) since setting them up was a breeze and the easiest setup on the market today, but again range was an issue (I couldn't get past 50 feet in my house). The Buffalo router was everything I wanted, AND MORE! I must say this router is designed, in my opinion, for experts, but it can be used by people with a basic knowledge of networks and be up and running in 15 minutes. There are MANY advanced features in this router, including my favorite the INTRUSION DETECTOR. Hook this baby up and it records all of the different kind of attacks performed on your network. NAT and SPI firewall are included in this router to protect your network. I couldn't get the AOSS feature to work and seamlessly setup my network, even a call to the kindly tech support told me the AOSS feature was very finicky and was hard to get to work. This is not of really any significance, I just setup the network manually. Output power, wireless mode, framebursting, WEP, WPA, AES can all be set according to your preferences. This router can also be used as a repeater to expand your network! Just to let everyone know, this little router blew away all of the routers I tried in range and I can easily get a good signal 150 feet away (thru my house, walls, and across my yard to the neighbors house)! You can't go wrong with this router, trust me.
