Rio Grande Games Manila Product Description:

  • 3 to 5 player game
  • 60 minuts to play
  • Pre-historic tribal hunters
  • Strategy game
  • Economic challenge

Product Description

It is 1821, and for 250 years the Philippine Islands have been under the thumb of the Spanish crown. But, in the end, the Spaniards do not really control everything. In the shadow of the colonial power, self-willed natives have established secret maritime trade with neighboring islands and the Asiatic mainland. Using odd-looking punts and fragile bamboo barks, these black market traders cram their boats with nutmeg, silk, jade, and ginseng, and set sail to smuggle them into MANILA. Succes in each venture is uncertain, as the seaworthiness of both boats and captains is poor. To add to their woes, pirates lie in wait to plunder boats that cannot escape them. Given all this, it is not surprising that wares that reach the black markets in MANILA command high prices, making the venture worth the risk for those who succeed. The black market dealers use accomplices to ensure they get the wares, bribe pilots to aid their cargoes and hinder others, and insure their cargoes against failure. And a few wealthy merchants hire pirates to attack the black market boats and secretly pocket the profits from these raids. Players: 3-5 Ages: 10 and up Playing Time: 60 minutes

5Manilla
By toolin4fun
Great product. One of my family's favorite. It combines some strategy and skill with a good deal of luck which makes it fun and gives everyone a shot at winning. Great for a variety of ages to play together. (My kids are 14-21 but I have played it with kids as young as 8.) This is the THIRD one I've bought! I keep giving them away because my friends love it too!

Mayfair Games 1870 Product Description:

  • Train theme
  • New custom rules
  • Part of the 18xx series of train games
  • Abuse corporate power like a robber baron
  • For 3 to 7 players

Product Description

This 18xx game takes the basic mechanics from Tresham's 1829, and adds several new elements. Players seek to make the most money by buying and selling stock in various rail companies located on a map of central United States. The board itself is actually a fairly abstract hexagonal system, with track tiles placed on top of the hexes. Players buy and sell stock in various share companies, whose actions are controlled by the majority stockholder. The stock manipulation aspect of the game is widely-regarded as one of the best. Plus each 18xx title adds new and different elements to the game. This game features private companies with special money-making capabilities and sizeable map which encourages most (if not all) share companies to become profitable. A game is finished when the bank runs out of money, and the player with the greatest personal holdings wins.

51870 - Find a copy if you can.
By Robert
This title is one of the longer commercially available 18xx games, but can still be rewarding. They are getting scarce, so find a copy while your able, or risk paying a premium.
