If you really want to quit smoking, you need this.
By Douglas G. Lally
In the twelve years I was a smoker I honestly believed it would be impossible to stop. I was so in love with smoking that I used to joke that I would quit when I was dead. When I finally decided that I was fed up with cigarettes once and for all (the cost, the stench, the heavy breath, the smoking bans, on and on) I gave this a try. Previously I had attempted to stop twice before, half-heartedly, using the patch and again with some sort of nonsensical herbal concoction. Both a waste of money. They just weren't strong enough for the chain smoker I was. I actually read reviews of the lozenge here and was convinced to try it. So I set my quit date and bought a box. It was a bit of a gamble since they aren't cheap but neither are cigarettes in NJ anymore. Does it work? Oh yeah, it works. It doesn't just curb the craves it eliminates them. I went from needing two packs of cigarettes a day to having virtually no desire to even look at them anymore. I'm still stunned. They do work and they work magnificently. One thing I like about them, they dissolve very slowly in your mouth which actually helps to alleviate the oral fixation in the absence of a cigarette. But be warned: Nothing replaces will power. You really need to want to quit. The lozenge is not a magic bullet but if you do decide to quit they are your best weapon. There is, however, a risk of developing an addiction to lozenges so it's incredibly important to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS and wean yourself off them according to the schedule provided. 4mg is a very strong shot of nicotine. Also if you swallow them or bite them you'll be treated to some very nasty heartburn and hiccups.Basically, if you follow the program and reinforce the desire to get rid of the smokes with a support group you WILL quit smoking. Trust me.

Works great
By kamknauss
I love love love smoking and hated to quit. I have four daughters, however, and am starting to look like the ultimate white trash in the parking lot at soccer games. I have quit before, one time for about a year and a half, but I resumed because I hoped that it would help me lose some of the weight I put on as a result. My shallowness would always win out over any hope of being a good example or a healthier person. Don't get me wrong, I still miss it like a boyfriend, it was just time. I love the lozenges. They work great for me. The last time, I was pregnant and used the patch. I was completely weaned off of them in about 3 weeks, but had wierd side effects and still craved cigarettes like crazy the first month. The nice thing about the lozenges is that they curb those cravings very quickly. Here are my tips for quitting and if I can do it, ANYONE can!!1: If you use the patch only, mark down on a piece of paper on the fridge how many times you have a craving and watch the progress as those cravings slowly subside. It is a very helpful motivator, as the cravings still come, but you realize that they get much more manageable and after a few weeks you only have a few "moments" a day. This is how I quit completely the first time. I had about 500 marks the first day, but it was great to watch it go down to about 4 marks after a month. I also avoid triggers this week, like other smokers and the area outside where I like to smoke.2: The second time I quit, I used the 4 mg dose lozenges the first week and then switched to the low dose patch and combined them with low dose (2mg) lozenges as needed the second week. The third and fourth and fifth week, I am on lozenges as needed. I just buy what's on sale, and am down to only a couple a day. I just bought the higher dose for the same price and only suck on them until an urge subsides, then set it aside until the next urge. I have made this box of 72 last at least three weeks. I plan on switching next week to the lowest dose patch only because the lozenges are addictive, but they sure do work.Lozenge pros: They definitely help your mouth do something, unlike the patch. You don't eat constantly with them and thereby don't get the incredible weight gain that sometimes happens otherwise. They work quickly. They don't make your jaw sore as the frantic chewing of the nicotine gum can. They really work better than any other method, and I've tried them all! No wierd nightmares at night like the patch and you get that "hit" in the morning or with coffee.Lozenge cons: Terrible gas, as stated by other reviews. I get the hiccups with them, almost every time, I don't know why, drives me batty! Taste pretty gross (still better than the gum). Last a looonggg time, much longer than stated, more like over an hour. Difficult to eat or drink anything with them, but this could be a pro also.I hope this helps someone to quit. If anyone needs anymore tips, feel free to ask me. I would love to help someone quit. You really do feel better afterwords, and I loved being a smoker. If it weren't harmful, I would be right back at it. If I can do it, anyone can!

40 years
By gitMan
I smoked heavily for over 40 years and was convinced that I would smoke til the day I croaked. Having been a veteran of several near-quits, you could say I was very skeptical about this (and all the other) "smoking cessation" products on the market.I tried the gum and it couldn't DENT my habit. The patch seemed stupid to me -- who needs Nicotine when they're asleep? I looked into Zyban but discovered that it doesn't interact well with alcohol and is NOT recommended for those of us who enjoy a cocktail. Or two. The nasal spray was about as palatable as a Crisco sandwich, and burnt the bejesus outta my schnozz. ("Hey folks, here's a good idea! Let's all snort a line of Emeril's Essence. BAM!")Even these lozenges are not without their drawbacks. If you suck on (or chew) these puppies you end up with a sour belly and enough flatulence to attract a flock of migrating Canadian geese. But when used as directed (ie let them dissolve sloooooowly) these things do make the cravings subside. Considerably. So has it worked? I hope so. Ain't no such thing as a miracle cure and if you're not motivated, nothing's going to help. While I am reluctant to say I've officially quit, I can tell you that it's been over two weeks and so far, so good. No smokes yet. Every day it gets a little easier, and this time I'm 80% convinced I can make it stick. All in all, you could do worse than to give these things a shot. With the free shipping, they're a lot cheaper here than they are at your local drugstore. For added savings buy the 4mg versions -- if you're a light smoker, just bust `em in half. Now all I gotta do is go on a damn diet to shed all the new buckets of lard I am acquiring, but that's another story. At least my lungs will be clear when I expire from rank obesity.Good luck to all.
