High quality build
By Giacomo
I bought one of these 5 years ago. It holds my 10-pound Gitzo G1500 aluminum tripod with a 6-pound Majestic geared head easily. I also use the same tripod with a Vinten Vision 3 fluid head for using with an Aaton 16mm film camera. Both setups fit perfectly in this bag. This Kata tripod bag is virtually indestructible, extremely well made, and well thought out in respect to design and real world use. The yellow interior means it's easy to see the inside contents. There are several outside zippered pockets for carrying smaller loose items. The main zips have yellow nylon pulls with big loops so opening and closing is quick and easy. The bag opens at the top and sits flat. The bottom end has several rows of hard exterior rubberized plastic "bumps" for absorbing shock when standing the tripod bag on end. There is also a nylon grab handle at the top end of the bag for pulling the bag up quickly (e.g., off a storage shelf, etc..) There is an arrow with "head" written on it on the floor of the interior, so you don't have to think twice about which end is which when packing the tripod back into the bag (the bottom end where the legs go, has some extra stitched thick black ballistic nylon probably to protect the inside of the bag from the tripod feet, especially if you have exposed spiked feet.) On the inside are two buckle style tie downs to strap the tripod firmly in the bag. Every place that there is a function, there is a bright yellow nylon tab which means no fumbling around since the yellow contrasts so well against the blue. The main handle is like a large round wooden dowel that has been cut in half. Each half is covered in black nylon and has velcro (in the visible yellow color) attached to the flat sides. When you stick the two halves together, they form a comfortable round wooden handle covered in padded nylon.Keep in mind that this is a semi-rigid bag due to some internal aluminum staving. But it's not a full 100% hard case and does flex for comfort while carrying. But it's still fully padded (with stiff padding.) The internal aluminum staving keeps the body rigid enough for easy access and also for protection. It also has backpack style straps which can come in handy for short term emergency use when you need some free hands; e.g. at the airport.I would have no concerns about shipping a tripod and head in this bag, it's strong and rigid enough. For those with big tripods and heads for large format photography, video, or motion picture film cameras, this is an excellent choice for full protection and long term durability.I paid around $375 back in 2007. The list price was close to $500. But they are no longer made (I'm not sure why Amazon says there are "more on the way") and so I recommend picking one up, especially at this price.
